Ever since being introduced here in the late 19th century, it continues to be a part of Filipino sporting lore. Ask around… baseball is no stranger here. Last summer, I brought the game to a group of underprivileged kids as an extra-curricular activity and it drew a certain passion from them as they continue to look forward to playing baseball. It isn't an uncommon phenomenon. Adults continue to bring the game to kids in our local setting, whether it's thru the efforts of the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association, the International Little League Association of Manila, Tot Baseball, the schools, etc. Migs Zuluaga leads the invocation during the maiden launch of the Titans League at the Alabang Country Club Field. The reality however is that someday these kids become adults themselves. What happens then is a question that's being addressed today by the Titans Baseball Club as the private sector's response in developing baseball at the adult level by consolidating various adult baseball interests. In effect, Titans Baseball streamlines youth development by providing a highway for continuity of baseball at the adult level, with a zeal for generating a talent base deserving of international cognizance within the next twenty years and beyond. The emphasis is on popular involvement in the game, furthering interest through participation. Realizing the importance of popular involvement and continuity at the adult level only enhances the process for sustainable development. Patterned after amateur and recreational leagues abroad, and guided by a vision of adult baseball catering to a spectrum of recreational players and aspiring talent alike, the Titans Baseball Club continues to revolutionize the Philippine baseball and sporting scenes. The emphasis is on popular involvement in the game, furthering interest through participation. A look into the demographic profile of Titans Baseball unmasks quite a cross-section of society. Currently in its third year of existence and second year as a club, Titans Baseball continues to attract adults of different backgrounds. What initially began as friends and former players playing baseball as a pastime, the organization now caters to people who want to play baseball but until recently could not find that outlet until the Titans took the field. Today's weekend warriors now include people who have hailed from the world wide web, local baseball circles and corporate society, including middle aged adults just looking to play some ball. Each weekend on the diamond, the organization continues to draw a handful of new faces, aspiring talent and novices alike, into the world of adult recreational and amateur baseball. Sports-loving women have recently been part of this influx as well. The well-crafted program of the club is designed to provide baseball camps geared for recreation and regular competition that has been severely lacking but deemed necessary to raise the game to international standards.
