Homerun Derby

Catch the fever! Yup, forty (40) guys played ball last Sunday morning, up from 33 the previous weekend; a testament to baseball enthusiasts that adult baseball in the country is making strides forward.

Highlight of the day was perhaps the country's first ever Homerun Derby which provided enough drama and excitement to everyone present (inlcuding those casual fans who didn't play). The first 13 batters from the 16-man field were battling within a few homers of each other until DLSU junior Sky Rosales blew away the competition by slugging nine homers, inlcuding five in a row at one point. Nevertheless, the derby was an instant hit.

Results of the Homerun Derby (in order of at-bat)...

1 Santi Ledesma
4 Jeff Rodriguez
2 Em Fernandez
2 Vince Alimurung
2 Jeff Rhebustillo

2 Edmund Esguerra
3 Roswald Palacol

As if to add more fireworks, Em Fernandez and Migs Zuluaga also hit solo shots during the three-team format game that followed. Final score: 5 - 1 - 6 (in order of team at-bat), with the game-winning run just beating the throw home.
