Bring It On
With a little over three weeks to go prior to the opening of the Titans
League, players are starting to put on their game faces.
Last Sunday's intrasquad affair was thus far the lowest scoring game this
preseason.
The
'road' team edged the 'home' squad 4-3 when rightfielder Kiko Joseph's
outstretched arm gloved what would have been a Nesty Leyson gamer with
the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the victory.
"There were uuhs and uuhs (from both sides)..." quipped Migs
Zuluaga on that game-ending play.
It appears that the past few games have played out to competitive balance,
at least within the club's ranks. The novices have caught on fast, precluding
those automatic outs.
Coupled with the club's unexpected win over the Canlubang Sugar Barons
two weekends ago, the Titans should just about be primed to take on the
league challenge.
As for the intrasquad game that took place last Sunday, newcomer Rommel
Roque went 3 for 3 with two doubles to pace the 'road' squad.
De la Salle University standout and ace Joseph Orillana, who will most
likely play for Antipolo during the Titans League, pitched 6 innings and
was seemingly locked in a pitcher's duel with ex-Maristian Sonny Pensaber.
Neither pitcher figured in the decision however.
Bacchus Ledesma's rbi-double in the 9th provided the winning margin.
