Welcome to the Titans Baseball Club
Play ball! Adult baseball is alive and well in the Philippine setting.
Two successive Sunday rainouts finally gave way to the official launching
of the Titans Baseball Club, marking the 2nd leg of the Titans baseball
season. Not even light morning showers could keep the sun away as thirty-three
baseball-loving souls treaded their way to Marist Field in Marikina. Not
bad for our version of opening day, considering that several others had
a raincheck.
Let's review the roll: Rajah Singh led a contingent of U.P. alums. Em
Fernandez, although without his Blue Eagles was among four Ateneo alums.
Not to be outdone, many of RJ Manzano's Green Archers made their presence
felt. There were also a few novice folk enthusiastic about playing ball,
including one Leah Bermudo, the lone female who certainly knows how to
have fun. Then there were the original Titans, with Jerome Sumulong and
Jeff Nolasco providing video coverage.
An hour of throwing and fielding drills led up to a Titans innovation:
a three team, three frame inning game that went three innings. The linescore
read 9-1-5 with a DLSU varsity squad rolling over a DLSU alumni-novice
group and a U.P.-Ateneo alumni varsity combination. The Green Archers
banked on a six-run outburst in the third inning to break open a close
game.
Play of the day: Centerfielder Em Fernandez, normally a firstbaseman,
charges forward to make a sliding catch in the first inning and take a
base hit away from the Archer squad. Arvin Sironay then homers to left-centerfield
to highlight the second inning.
So come out and play as we bring players from all around together! On
