Wednesday, November 27 Titans Close Season with Comeback Wins... In what has become their trademark during the 2002 Titans Tour, the Titans would dig themselves a hole only to spring back at their opponents with late rallies. On Sunday they did it twice, rallying to beat the Blue Eagles in the first game, 8-6 after falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, then taking the trailer from Marikina, 7-5 after pushing across three runs in their last at bat. By beating Ateneo, the Titans avenged last weekend's 10-7 loss. Both teams essentially picked up where they left off. The Blue Eagles lighted up the scoreboard early with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by Jon Zamora's bases-clearing double. Leslie Suntay, who started on the mound for the Titans was once again the victim of the onslaught, leaving after facing only four batters. Joey Carillo comes in to relieve Suntay and is greeted by a pair of run-scoring doubles. But Carillo, the 2002 Titans Series' Best Pitcher awardee, would settle down, giving up just two hits thereafter while striking out ten in the process. This time the Titans offense responded quickly, stringing together three runs in the second and one in third inning. Migs Zuluaga's two-run single off Blue Eagle reliever Zamora highlighted a four-run fourth inning to put the Titans ahead. The Ateneans would get a run back in the fifth, but with runners on first and second in the last frame, Carillo gets Jong Clemente to hit into a game-ending double play to seal the Titans' victory. Marikina would get their first crack at the Titans in the latter's two-year history in the second game of the doubleheader. But Chad Garcia had other ideas, scoring four runs while driving home the tying and winning runs in the sixth inning as the Titans surged past Marikina, 7-5 in a game that featured five lead changes. Garcia led off the Titans first with a walk, stole second and third then scored on catcher Bobby Estanislao' miscue to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. Marikina got three runs in the third courtesy of Nolasco Reyes' rbi single, Jerry Estanislao's steal of home and shortstop Joey Carillo's error. Ryan Gutierrez's two-run single in the Titans' third knotted the game. The Titans would regain the lead in the fifth on Migs Zuluaga's rbi single. Marikina went back into the driver's seat in the top of the sixth on Rodolfo Cruz's rbi single and Jerry Estanislao's sacrifice fly, setting the stage for yet another Titans rally. Nesty Leyson hurled six innings for the win, giving up five runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out two. Santi Ledesma escaped a pair of walks in the last frame for the save. By winning twice, the Titans finished the Tour with four victories against two defeats, though barely outscoring their opponents, 36-34. Defense was a key ingredient as the Titans averaged just over two errors a game, a significant improvement over their previous campaign.
